5 top tips to appear on Google Shopping

Here are our top tips to meet Google's requirements to ensure your listings appear on Google Shopping for free!

Last updated: 16 May 2024

A bonus of listing with Trade Me as an in-trade seller is the opportunity for your listings to appear on Google Shopping for free!

To have the best chance of your listings showing up in Google Shopping search and increasing your sales by being a part of New Zealand's biggest Google account, there are some requirements to adhere to when creating your listings.

Here are our 5 top tips to meet Google's requirements:

1. New shipping details requirement

As of 31st July 2024, products will need to have shipping details and costs included on the listing to be approved for Google Shopping ads. So it's important to have your shipping templates set up through your listing tool to ensure your products are eligible for Google's Free Listing and Shopping Ads. By adding this information, you can also increase the chance of findability and grow sales. For more information on how to update your shipping templates in My Products, see our shipping template guide.

2. Remove logos or promotion from images

Remove logos, text, and any promotional content from all listing images. Images that feature company logos are one of the most common reasons for disapproval.

3. Ensure your GTIN is up to date

Ensure your Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) is up to date. Google Shopping uses GTINs to identify your listing and display it live.

4. Make sure your images meet Google's standards

All images should meet Google's standards; at least one image, a good resolution (500x500 - 800x800 is recommended), and be free of copyright.

5. Use the correct image file type

Image file type must be supported, for example, png, jpg or pdf. Monochrome, sepia or edited photos will also not be approved - this includes black and white images.
