Professional sellers

Pricing, Ping and shipping

A summary of pricing, payment and shipping expectations for professional sellers.

Pricing

Pricing for business sellers is tailored to the seller. Please see our Marketplace fees help section for an overview.

If you are a large retailer or an experienced international marketplace seller, please get in touch with us to discuss what your pricing options may be.

Ping

When you create a listing, you can add Ping as a payment option. If a buyer pays with Ping, their money will instantly appear in your Ping balance. Note that there is a transaction fee of 1.95% (1.65% for Top Sellers).

You can choose to leave the buyer’s money in your Ping balance to pay for Trade Me purchases, or transfer it to your bank account.

Payment frequency

  • From your Ping account we’ll make payments into your bank account each business day if you have a New Zealand bank account registered to Ping.
  • If you have an international bank account registered to Ping, we’ll pay into the international bank account on the first Friday of every month.

Invoicing

We offer an invoicing service to international and Domestic sellers. This means you’re not required to credit your Trade Me account when success fees are charged, and it makes account payments easier to track.

We send invoices at the beginning of each calendar month, and remittance is due by the 20th of the month. We accept direct deposit and all major credit card transactions.

Refunds

Success fee refund requests can be submitted for any purchases that are unsuccessful. We require the purchase numbers, date and reason for refund on all refund applications before they can be reviewed. The net value of any refunds will be deducted from your invoice.

Shipping expectations

Shopping from an international seller can raise questions for a buyer, and shipping plays an important role to a successful sale.

Duties

When Kiwi buyers purchase goods from overseas sellers, there’s a chance they will incur import duties when the goods reach home shores. This is a normal part of international trading, but we want to ensure buyers are given adequate notice of this possibility before they choose to buy from you. Nobody likes nasty surprises, especially those accompanied by hefty price tags!

The New Zealand Customs Service operates the What’s My Duty? website, which estimates duties on a wide range of products. As an international seller, we have automatically included a link in your “Shipping options” section on each of your listings. We would also recommend adding a note to your listing description for items over NZD$400, as some products may incur an additional duties charge.

Further information about Customs charges, duties and allowances can be found on the NZ Customs Service’s website.

Timeframes

For larger merchants, especially international sellers, it is really important to set up fast shipping timeframes and include this info in your listing. You must ensure items are shipped as soon as possible, and within a week of receiving payment and delivery address, unless otherwise indicated in the listing or agreed by both parties. The biggest barrier to clinching a sale for overseas products, is slow shipping timeframes.
