Relisting a property

What is a “relist”?

A "relist" is when a property that has already been listed on Trade Me is withdrawn and then listed again. To qualify as a relist, the property must be published again on Trade Me Property within 45 days of the previous listing's withdrawn date. If the listing is published after this 45-day window, it will be treated as a brand-new listing.

When a listing is relisted within 45 days, it will retain its original start date. All previous listing metrics, including search views, listing views, watchlisters, and enquiries, will be lost.

It is against our terms and conditions to create a new listing to renew the start date inside the 45 day window. This artificially elevates the property and is misleading to customers and unfair for competitors.

To note, our packages in the Residential for Sale and New Homes categories are designed to last for the “lifetime” of a listing, with weekly boosts to keep it fresh in the search results.

If the previous listing had a package

If the property you're relisting previously had a package (like a Silver, Gold, or Platinum package), the relist will automatically start as a Starter Package listing at no extra charge. In all other categories, it will have a Feature applied to it.

You will also be eligible for a 50% discount on the original package if in the Residential for Sale & New Homes category.

If the previous listing didn't have a package

If the previous listing didn't have a package, your relisted property will start as a standard listing.

You can still add a package when you create the relist using the Relist with Edits function through your CRM, or you can add one later by editing the listing or by contacting our Customer Experience team via propertyagents@trademe.co.nz.

These rules also apply to customers on a Partner Agreement.

Using a CRM?

If you use a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system, these relisting rules should be handled automatically. If you're unsure how to apply a package or relist correctly, please contact your CRM provider's support team for assistance, and you can reference this link.

Changing your listing's category

If you've listed a property in the wrong category, don't worry—we can help.

If you need to change categories within 12 hours of listing starting

For existing Residential for Sale and New Homes category and subcategory listings, you can withdraw the incorrect listing and create a new one in the right category. The fees for the withdrawn listing will be automatically waived, as long as it's within 12 hours.

If you're unsure, contact our Customer Experience team at propertyagents@trademe.co.nz.

If you need to change categories in other categories

Email our Customer Support team with the old and new ten-digit Trade Me Listing ID. We'll provide you with you options once assessed by our team.

Changing listing suburb

The listing suburb can only be changed within the first 14 days of the listing being live on Trade Me. If you need to change the suburb please contact our Customer Support team.

Requesting new suburbs

If a suburb you want to list in is not available on Trade Me you can request it to be created with our Customer Support Team. Please note that we will cross check your request with the NZ Post Website and Google Maps before creating a new suburb.

Once a new suburb has been created your feed provider will also require an update from their end to make it available in their system. Trade Me Property sends them an update of newly created suburbs in the beginning every month.

Moving listings between agencies

If an agency is purchased by another agency, the inventory can be moved to the relevant account. This ensures all editing ability and branding are with the correct company.

To move these listings, please contact our Customer Experience team at propertyagents@trademe.co.nz, and our team will be able to advise of the next steps.

Important points to remember:

  • All new listings will be backdated to match the original publish date.
  • All previous listing metrics, including search views, listing views, watchlisters, and enquiries, will be lost.
  • This process does not apply to agents moving between different brands.

Change of Ownership

If your NZBN or Legal Entity has changed or you have sold your business please let us know so we can update your data from our end.
