You can’t sell emergency service uniforms or accessories on Trade Me.

If you have an emergency uniform, it's usually still the property of the workforce and shouldn't be sold by a member of the public on Trade Me or elsewhere.

What uniforms and accessories are banned

You can’t list any items that include official markings, like the NZ Police Crest, or are issued as part of a standard uniform.

Uniforms and accessories included in the ban are:

  • Items from New Zealand 111 emergency services including police, fire and ambulance.
  • Items from other emergency services.
  • Items from the Department of Corrections.
  • Red and blue flashing lights for vehicles.

Even if the uniform is an imitation, if it's easy to recognize as belonging to one of New Zealand's emergency services, you can't sell it. Uniforms and accessories can be used to impersonate officials. Impersonating a police officer is against the law.  To prevent this, the gear is usually owned by the workplace and is required to be returned when no longer in use.

As always, safety is a top priority when it comes to our policies and what can and can't be sold on the site. We will remove listings that break this policy. If you see an item that shouldn't be onsite, let us know via community watch at the bottom of the listing.
