Canine sires and dams – stud services for sale

We take animal welfare super seriously, and we want to prevent unethical breeding slipping through the cracks.

If you’re thinking about breeding your furry friends, here’s what you need to know...

Your responsibilities as a breeder are important, and before listing or finding a stud service make sure to get familiar with the Animal Welfare Act 1999 and the relevant Code of Welfare.

We also have our own info page for listing animals, which may answer any other questions. You’ll find more info about our Code of Animal Welfare, listing limits, and category rules we have for animals or animal services.

Our code of Animal Welfare is voluntary for anyone who lists cats or dogs for sale, and as a responsible breeder you should comply with the code when listing or seeking stud services. We have this code in place to encourage good health and quality of life for all animals.

In our ‘Pets & animals’ classified categories, the seller can tick a box in the listing process which confirms the animal has been cared for in accordance with the Animal Welfare Code, has had a vet check, been wormed and fleaed as appropriate, and is in good overall health.

This compliance tick box is unavailable in our domestic services category, so it’s on you as a buyer or seller of stud services to seek this welfare information yourself when making contact through our service listings.

If you reckon you’re ready to commit to your responsibilities as a breeder, we'd encourage you to create your listing in the Services category, where members can contact you directly via email or phone to chat business. To list a service hit 'Sell' on the Trade Me homepage and then select 'Service'.

The best category for your listing will be:

Services > Domestic services > Animals & pets

At this stage we don’t allow the stud services or semen of particular breeds to be listed.

These breeds include:

• British Bulldog,
• French Bulldog,
• Pug.
  

We’ve banned the sale of these breeds because they suffer from a condition called Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS). More information on this ban can be found on our blog post.

We also don’t allow the stud services or semen of the following breeds:

• American Pit Bull Terrier,
• Brazilian Fila,
• Dogo Argentino,
• Japanese Tosa or
• Presa Canario

These breeds can be dangerous and are known to be targeted for use in dog fighting.
